Oral Surgery Websites: Similar Content and Similiar Sites

Recently I have come to realize and become aware of a major problem and concern amongst the websites of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. A large number of these websites are made by PBHS Inc, a company that specializes in Dental Website Design. It is easy to spot a website made by PBHS Inc as in the footer (or the bottom) of the website there is a link back to PBHS and the following text “Website Design By PBHS Inc. - Copyright © XXXX”. Where the XXXX is the year the site was likely designed.

The websites made by PBHS Inc. are aesthetically pleasing and look quite nice. The domain is usually close to the name of the oral surgeon or the group of oral surgeons. At the top of the site is usually a menu that is white and drops down. It typically has “Patient Info” on the far left and the drop down options are “Introduction, First Visit, Scheduling, Financial Policy, Insurance, Privacy Policy, and Online Videos” from top to bottom. Even so not all websites are exactly the same but can usually be identified by seeing the “Website Design by PHBHS Inc.” at the bottom (or near bottom) of the site.

The main issue I have with these sites is the content. The design looks quite different from site to site, but the content is sometimes nearly identical. This leads me to know for sure that PBHS is using a template with preloaded content for each website they are designing for the different oral surgeons and dentists. This is somewhat alarming. You would think that an oral surgeon would gain some knowledge from his practice and experience after performing numerous surgeries and other procedures. But this is not the case, oral surgeons are allowing for PBHS Inc. to mass produce websites for them. Perhaps this is partially due to the oral surgeons technological ineptitude, but even so should not be tolerated. Oral surgeons should be able to offer their own opinion and advice when it comes to procedures and not have to rely on something being given to them from some company.

Let me illustrate more clearly what I am talking about by showing you several oral surgeons websites and their wisdom teeth page. You will be able to clearly see that the content of each of the 4 websites from the different oral surgeons and oral surgery groups located throughout the United States are extremely similar if not identifical for the wisdom teeth section of the webpage.

ading.com

The above is from ading.com for an oral surgeon located in Fremont, CA.

clevelandoms.com

The above is from clevelandoms.com for an oral surgery group located in Ohio.

cforalsurgery.com

The above is from conestogaoms.com for an oral surgery group located in Lancaster, PA.

conestogaoms.com

The above is from cforalsurgery.com for an oral surgery group located in Florida.

I know that if I were seeing an oral surgereon and considering a serious surgery such as wisdom teeth removal, I would want to know that my oral surgeon put some personalized touch into his practice. What really gets me going though is that the after wisdom tooth removal instructions are nearly all the same for every practice according to the website. Even so, somehow one of these websites "conestogaoms.com" is somehow ranked higher than me as of 6/26/09 for the keyword "wisdom teeth removal" on Google. This tells me that Google is not doing their job of finding duplicate content properly. Google is supposed to penalize and not reward sites that have the same or nearly the same content.

The following are a list of some sites I have found so far that are made by PBHS Inc. for an oral surgeon or group of oral surgeons.and seem to have nearly the same if not exactly the same content for the section of wisdom teeth and after wisdom tooth removal instructions.

It is important to note that some sites that are made by PBHS Inc., do have oral surgeons or an oral surgeon who will take the time to modify and change the content provided by PBHS Inc. to better tailor it towards their practice and experience. An example of this type of site is the following. Even so the content still ends up being quite similar in some cases.
